The UAE's free-zone company structure (DMCC, IFZA, RAKEZ, JAFZA and similar) has made it easy to set up a trading, e-commerce or consulting business quickly — and a large number of these companies now sell into the United States through Amazon FBA, Shopify, or wholesale/re-export channels. Many free-zone owners assume their UAE company license alone protects their brand name; it doesn't extend to the U.S. market.

Does a UAE free-zone license make you "U.S. domiciled"?
No. Having a DMCC, IFZA or other UAE free-zone license — even one with an associated U.S. registered agent, EIN, or U.S. bank account — does not make you domiciled in the United States for USPTO purposes. Domicile relates to where your business is actually established and operated, which for most UAE free-zone companies remains the UAE.

Does this cover trademark protection inside the UAE?
No. A U.S. federal registration provides rights under U.S. law only. Protecting your brand inside the UAE requires a separate filing with the UAE Ministry of Economy's trademark office, and protection across other GCC countries generally requires individual national filings as well.
